What is Propane Gas?
To understand why TruFlame is so passionate about propane, it helps to know more about it. Here’s a quick look at this clean, efficient fuel. Also known as liquefied petroleum gas (or LPG), propane is a gas that is compressed and stored as a liquid. Propane is colorless, nontoxic and odorless. You might identify propane as having a sulfur-like smell, but that odor actually is added so that propane can be identified. For many years, propane has been used mostly for space heaters, water heaters, grills and stoves. Occasionally, it is fuel for forklifts, farm irrigation engines, fleet vehicles and buses. Because of technology advances, propane is becoming more widely used, even as a vehicle fuel (known as propane Autogas).
Where Do We Get Propane?
Propane mostly comes from domestic natural gas processing, though some of it is produced when refining crude oil. American propane supplies are increasing mostly as a result of increased supplies of natural gas. The Marcellus shale play in the northeastern U.S. is among the fastest growing sources of natural gas production in the United States, rising from less than 1.7 billion cubic feet per day at the beginning of 2010 to 16.4 billion cubic feet per day in July 2015. Because of the large increase in U.S. sources of propane, the U.S. produces more than enough propane to meet demand and became an exporter of propane in 2011.
Why We Choose Propane
There are many reasons Truflame – and the general public - chooses propane. Take a look, and you’ll see why propane is a great option.
It’s Clean: Propane is an approved clean fuel listed in the 1990 Clean Air Act. Using propane instead of gasoline and fuel oil reduces carbon dioxide and air pollutants such as carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide.
It’s American: Propane production keeps quality jobs in our country. If you're looking for a job that takes you places and makes an impact for customers, learn more about joining the industry.
It's Abundant:The United States produces more than enough propane to meet demand. In fact, the U.S. is propane’s leading producer. Propane is a clean-burning alternative to gasoline and diesel that can address energy challenges while long-term renewable technologies are developed.
It’s Affordable: Despite sharp declines in oil prices, domestic propane production is expected to continue to grow rapidly, keeping downward pressure on average propane prices relative to oil prices.
